The Cedi at 60 – A Joyous Celebration

There’s something about currency conferences held in Africa! They may not always run with clockwork precision, but they are among the most memorable and vibrant events on the conference calendar, creating an ambience that is uniquely conducive to relationship building and the sharing of stories.

Such was the case with the Cedi@60 International Currency Conference, hosted last November by the Bank of Ghana (BoG), in partnership with Currency Research. The event welcomed 850 attendees from 42 countries, including 24 African central banks, along with several hundred more local attendees.

The conference was opened by BoG Governor Johnson P Asiama, who proclaimed the Cedi@60 celebrations to be a year-long reflection on the role of the cedi in Ghanaian life. ‘For 60 years, the cedi has moved with our people. It has helped families plan, businesses grow, and communities to support one another,’ he said.
