Writing a New Chapter for Recycled Banknotes

De La Rue, in collaboration with Onoto, has launched ‘The SAFEGUARD® Pen’ – a limited-edition writing instrument that, it says, represents more than a century of shared heritage, craftsmanship and innovation.

De La Rue founded the Onoto brand back in 1905 as a pioneering British writing instrument, following its development of the first ever self-filling fountain pen. Onoto quickly became a globally recognised symbol of quality and ingenuity, and its pens were used by prominent figures throughout history, including Sir Winston Churchill and Florence Nightingale (both of whom, coincidentally, have featured on Bank of England banknotes). Production ceased in 1958 but in

2005 the company was resurrected to produce finely engineered, hand-crafted writing instruments.
