New Banknote Launch for Fiji

The Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) is preparing to launch a completely new series of Fijian dollar (FJD, $) banknotes in a major refresh that reflects both technical advances and an updated national vision. The formal unveiling will take place on 2 December in the capital, Suva, by the President of Fiji, HE Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and the new notes are scheduled to enter circulation from 2 January 2026.

Namibia’s Currency Revamp: A Celebration of National Pride and Identity

In a bold step to modernise its currency and reaffirm national identity, the Bank of Namibia (BoN) has launched an upgraded series of banknotes and a fully redesigned set of coins. Officially introduced by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in July 2025, the new currency began circulating at the end of September 2025, marking a historic milestone for the nation.

Japan’s New Yen Notes Make Steady Progress

On 3 July 2024, the Bank of Japan (BoJ) began issuing its new series of banknotes, including the ¥10,000, ¥5,000, and ¥1,000 denominations, marking the first currency redesign in two decades. Almost a year later, as of the end of June 2025, c. 5 billion of the new banknotes had been issued, accounting for about 30% of the total volume of notes in circulation.

The Bank of Thailand (BOT) has launched new 50 and 100 baht (THB) banknotes on polymer, which will go into circulation in November. The launch builds on the success of the THB 20 note, which was issued in 2022, and which studies by the BOT have shown is four times more durable than its paper counterpart. The projected savings as a result over the eight years that the notes are expected to last are 350 million banknotes per year, reducing production, transport and resource costs.

Bolivia’s Bicentennial Commemorative Banknote
